Belly Dance is a wonderful form of creative dance and exercise. The dance is uniquely designed for the female body with emphasis on abdominal muscles, hip moves, and chest moves. It is dance characterized by smooth, flowing, complex and sensual movements of the torso, alternated with shaking and shimmy type moves. Classes include a thorough warm-up and cool down. You will learn to concentrate on isolating the muscles so each portion of the body can be moved independently of the rest of the body; to contract muscles to give them control, strength, and coordination; and to stretch every part of the body until you know where the controlling muscles are and how to work them individually. You will work hard, have fun, and in time, be well on your way to becoming a skilled Belly Dancer.
Attire: Students will need stretchy form-fitting clothes, leotards or unitards, dance sandals, bare feet or socks, and a shawl or long scarf to tie around their hips.
